PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Teaching at undergraduate level and participating in research and community engagement activities.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching undergraduate level in Operations Research and Statistics.
2. Further own qualifications. Present research in academic spaces such as conferences and workshops.
3. Participate in community engagement activities.
4. Serve in professional bodies as a reviewer, editor, other committees etc.
5. Course development and curriculum.
6. Prepare and conduct student assessments allocated modules.
7. Administrative duties related to the department and school’s activities.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
§ An honours degree (NQF level 8) in Operations Research.
§ A minimum of one (1) year teaching experience.
RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGES:
§ A masters’ degree (NQF level 9).
§ Conference proceedings and publication(s) in an accredited journal.
§ Membership with the Operations Research Society of South Africa (ORSSA).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
§ Ability to teach a variety of Operations Research and Statistics modules.
§ Knowledge of Statistical methods and use of Statistical and Operations Research software.
§ Research outputs.
§ Ability to conduct basic and applied research in the field of Operations Research and Statistics.
§ Assume administration responsibilities in their department.
§ Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
§ Communication skills/lecturing and people management skills.
§ Interpersonal skills and mentoring skills.
§ Ability to work well independently as well as in a team.
§ Good time management and ability to work well under pressure.
§ Effective communication skills.
§ Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
