NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY FACULTY/ DIVISION: CENTRE FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING POSITION NUMBER: N000247 VACANCY: VENUE MONITOR PEROMNES GRADE: P13 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED TERM APPOINTMENT (1 YEARS) PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Supporting lecturers and students through human-technology interaction by coordinating information communication technology (ICT) videoconferencing meetings between NWU lecturing venues and external participants, enabling hybrid-flexible learning. Providing technical and administrative support to ensure successful videoconferencing and lecture recordings, reducing anxiety, and building trust in support staff and technologies, enabling productive and pleasurable teaching and learning experiences
Job description

1.    MANAGEMENT:
·         Exemplary technology management and utilisation — preparation, testing, operation and monitoring of videoconferencing connections, equipment, and venues — according to preferred practices and objectively evaluated criteria
·         Irreproachable confidentiality and data security when performing duties
·         Establish rosters for shift of team to support lectures and students through human technology interaction
2.    SUPPORT:
·         Skilfully supporting human-technology interaction to enable successful videoconferencing and recordings of learning events between lecturing venues and outside participants, so that lecturers and students do not have to take responsibility for proper functioning of educational technologies
·         Exemplary administrative arrangements pertaining to videoconferencing — before, during and after meetings, observation, and reporting — according to preferred practices and objectively evaluated criteria.
·         Interpretation of user experience and technological performance to effect incident, problem and request management, escalation and follow-up of service requests and suggestions for facilities improvement
3.    COMMUNICATION:
·         Communicate and support using remote desktop/device supporting software, telephone, or text communication to enable users to connect to the internet or computer networks, connect to videoconferences; activate audio and video devices; record, edit or disseminate video recordings into video content management and learning management platforms.
·         Collaborate in developing videoconferencing technology, usefulness, and ease-of-use by sharing user experiences and contributing to the NWU technological training repository.
 
4.    PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
·         Alleviating anxiety, cultivating user confidence, and developing competence towards an optimum collaborative learning environment, utilising technologies for hybrid flexible learning — contributing to evolving preferred practices and training repositories
·         Participation in required training opportunities and providing training on services when required.
·         Contributing to the development/reviewing of procedures, processes, standards, and systems

Minimum requirements

·         Senior Certificate (Matric) with Computer Applications Technology (CAT) as a subject is essential.
·         National Diploma / Advanced certificate in Education/Communication Studies/IT is desirable.
·         1 year experience working in an office environment is desirable.
·         2 years relevant experience in a client services environment is essential.
·         2 years’ experience in technology utilisation and user support within high-level academic, corporate, or professional environment
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Superior communication skills
·         In-depth knowledge of standard software programs (e.g., MS Office, Windows Operating Systems, Email and internet) and potential for easily acquiring skills in using unfamiliar technologies
·         In-depth knowledge of information communication technology in videoconferencing
·         In-depth knowledge of smart-phone, tablet and related mobile communication technology utilisation in videoconferencing and connectedness
·         Excellent problem resolution and customer service skills
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Ability to create and maintain a productive and relaxed hybrid-flexible teaching and learning environment, perform professionally, discreetly and maintain confidentiality while supporting lecturers, students, internal and external participants in stressful environments
·         Multitasking between simultaneous communication channels and technology processes during videoconferencing meetings and while managing recordings.
·         Ability to manage time effectively
·         Adapt to diverse organisational environments.
·         Ability to develop good relations with all stakeholders
·         Ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism
·         Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently
·         Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and data security in performing duties
 
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
