JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching and Learning.
  • Research and supervision.
  • Development of course material. 

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
The incumbent will be expected to:
  • The candidate must be willing to teach in other areas of economics when required.
  • Proven ability to think critically, analytically, and laterally across disciplines and sectors (transdisciplinary).
  • Fluent in written and oral English communication
  • Have strong knowledge of the fields of macro- and microeconomics.
  • Have strong knowledge of the fields of economics.
  • Be able to lecture and supervise students.
  • Have a proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in student’s educational environment.
  • Be able to conduct and publish high-quality research
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office package.
  • The ability to publish in high-impact journals.
  • The ability to supervise graduate students.
  • Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
  • The ability to solve problems independently.
  • High level of professional and ethical conduct
  • Research management skills.
  • Overall management skills.

Minimum requirements

  • A minimum requirement of a relevant Master’s degree (NQF 9 level) in Economics / Economic Development / Public Finance or Economics / Econometrics.
  • Appropriate teaching and practical experience with teaching in higher education, proven research ability.
  • Strong working knowledge of advanced statistics and different econometrics packages such as R, E-views, SPSS, STATA.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
