NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES CENTRE FOR WATER SCIENCES AND MANAGEMENT POSITION NUMBER: P002959 VACANCY: LABORATORY MANAGER PEROMNES GRADE: P9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The laboratory manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the laboratory and takes responsibility for all aspects of the laboratory, including instruments, users and supplies needed to ensure the laboratory runs smoothly.
Job description


·       Ensures that the laboratory’s goals are met and adhering to approved budgets
·       Ensures efficient and effective departmental operations, including quality control and compliance adherence.
·       Implements new programs, tests methods, instrumentation and procedures by investigating alternatives
·       Plan and implement overall laboratory policies and procedures. Have a sound understanding of SANAS–ISO17205 regulatory requirements and able to make adjustments in policy and procedures
·       Writing user manuals, training employees, maintaining security and confidentiality
·       Update and maintain the laboratory’s safety plan and SDS manual and maintain all records
·       Manage and update chemical inventories and recommend improvements
·       Ad hoc activities from the Director

Minimum requirements

·       Degree in soil or water related fields
·       5 years’ analytical laboratory experience
·       5 years’ supervisory experience
·       5 years’ experience in laboratory management
