Job description

Teaching
  • Facilitate and administer the learning process for students in physics modules presented by the North West University at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
  • Review and design academic curricula.
Research
  • Carry out research and supervise postgraduate students
Community Engagement
  • Contribute to community engagement and be involved in the departmental administrative functions.
Functional/Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills):
  • Effective lecturing of undergraduate and post-graduate physics theory courses at university level.
  • The ability to carefully analyse information and use logic to address issues and problems at work.
  • For the Lecturer position, the successful candidate will be expected to register for a PhD within a year of joining the University.
  • Ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
Behavioural Competencies:                   
  • The ability to be sensitive and understanding to the needs and feelings of others
  • T he ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations.
  • The ability to be cooperative with others, display a good-natured attitude, and encourage people to work together

Minimum requirements

SENIOR LECTURER
  • PhD in physics is essential
  • At least 3 year’s teaching experience at the level sought
  • At least 2 publications (as the first author) in peer reviewed journals
  • Registration with South African Institute of Physics (SAIP) and have Membership
 LECTURER
  • PhD in physics is desirable
  •  MSc in physics is essential
  • At least 3 year’s teaching experience at the level sought
  • Registration with South African Institute of Physics (SAIP) and have Membership
  •  At least 1 publication is essential
