Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
·         This positions forms part of the ITC Operations & Infrastructure group. This position focus on installing, maintaining of all NWU IT-infrastructure across all campuses of the University

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         NQF5 with Information Technology as an area of specialisation and 1-2 years additional IT certifications

EXPERIENCE:
·         5 years’ experience in IT Infrastructure Project Management
·         5 years’ experience of working in enterprise IT environment

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Technical specialism:
  • Maintains knowledge of specific technical specialisms, provides detailed advice regarding their application and executes specialised tasks. The specialism can be any area of information or communication technology, technique, method, product or application area

2.    Project management:
  • Takes full responsibility for the definition, documentation and satisfactory completion of medium-scale projects (typically lasting 6-12 months, with direct business impact, teams of 3-5 and firm deadlines)
  • Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project
  • Ensures that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and provides regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate
  • Ensures Quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure
  • Manages the change control procedure, and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off
  • Provides effective leadership to the project team, and takes appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances

3.    Systems installation/decommissioning:
·         Takes responsibility for installation projects, providing effective team leadership, including information flow to and from the customer during project work
·         Develops and implements quality plans and method statements
·         Monitors the effectiveness of installations and ensures that appropriate recommendations for change are made

4.    Capacity management:
·         Monitors service component capacity and initiates actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures
·         Applies techniques to modify demand for a particular resource or service
5.    Configuration management:
·         Manages configuration items (CIs) and related information
·         Applies and maintains tools, techniques and processes for identification, classification and control of CIs and ensuring related information is complete, current and accurate

6.    Radio frequency engineering:
·         Investigates and resolves system-wide fault conditions using a wide range of diagnostic tools and techniques
·         Reconfigures equipment to circumvent temporary outages

7.    Network support (NTAS):
·         Drafts and maintains procedures and documentation for network support
·         Makes a significant contribution to the investigation, diagnosis and resolution of network problems
·         Ensures that all requests for support are dealt with according to set standards and procedures

8.    IT estate management (DCMA):
·         Uses data centre management tools to produce management information on power, cooling and space and investigate issues where necessary
·         Carries out routine audit and checks to ensure adherence to policies and procedures
·         Facilitates the implementation of mandatory electrical safety testing
9.    Supplier relationship management:
·         Collects performance data and investigates problems
·         Monitors and reports on supplier performance, customer satisfaction, and market intelligence
·         Resolves or escalates problems. Implements supplier service improvement actions and programmes
·         Monitors performance

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
