Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
·         To supervise and lead the cataloguing component on campus. Cost effective and careful creation of metadata. Ensure quality international cataloguing practices adherence. Enhance discoverability and access to all information resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
·         B.Bibl. / B.Inf, or B degree plus postgraduate qualification in Information Science

EXPERIENCE:
·         4 years’ working experience in cataloguing

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP:
·         LIASA Membership

 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Knowledge of AACR2, RDA, LCSH and DDC23
·         Computer literacy (Ms Office, Emails and Internet)
·         Knowledge of cataloguing module on a library management system
·         People management skills
·         Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Catalogue print and electronic resources
2.    URL editions on the library system (SIERA / Worldshare)
3.    Capturing library holdings to WorldCat
4.    Classification of resources
5.    Allocate subject headings (LCSH)
6.    Formulate access point
7.    Reporting and statistics
8.    Quality control
9.    Attend to bibliographic enquiries
10.  Supervise the cataloguing staff


The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
