NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: M0003168 VACANCY: SENIOR LECTURER/ LECTURER IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS PEROMNES GRADE: A7/A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematics or Applied Mathematics modules, and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of postgraduate students.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teaching and Learning – Presenting undergraduate & postgraduate modules. Development of new modules and updating of study guides.
• Research and Innovation – Supervision of postgraduate students and the publication of research papers in accredited journals.
• Organisational and Management tasks – Assist with management tasks.

Minimum requirements

Qualification
• Senior lecturer: PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics is essential.
• Lecturer: MSc in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics is essential.
Experience/s
• 3 year’s Senior lecturer experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students is essential.
• 2 year’s Lecturer experience in teaching undergraduate students is essential.
• 3 year’s Senior lecturer experience in Research and postgraduate supervision is essential. Supervision of M&D students and a track record of research publications.
• Experience as a Lecturer in research is desirable. Should be registered for a PhD.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Knowledge of Latex, Matlab, Word and Excel.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
• Work independently but also as a team.
• Have very good people skills.
• Professional and ethical behaviour.
• Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.


The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
