NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: M000310 VACANCY: PROFESSOR /ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS PEROMNES GRADE: A5/A6 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematics or Applied Mathematics modules, and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of postgraduate students.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning – Presenting undergraduate & postgraduate modules. Development of new modules and updating of study guides.
Research and Innovation – Supervision of postgraduate students and the publication of research papers in accredited journals.
Organisational and management tasks – Assist with management tasks and also with Mentoring of junior staff members and involvement in university/faculty committees.

Minimum requirements

Qualification
• PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics is essential.
Experience/s
• 6-8 year’s Associate Professor experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduates students is essential.
• 6-8 year’s Associate Professor experience in research and postgraduate supervision is essential. Supervision of M&D students and a track record of research publications.
• 8-10 year’s Professor experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students is essential.
• 8-10 year’s Professor experience in research and postgraduate supervision is essential. Supervision of M&D students and a track record of research publications.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Knowledge of Latex, Matlab, Word and Excel.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
• Work independently but also as a team.
• Have a very good people’s skills.
• Professional and ethical behaviour.
• Be able to act as a member for junior staff.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
