Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

 1. Teaching and Learning:
·       Teach introductory and advanced level courses to a diverse student body
·       Bring enthusiasm and strong pedagogy to teaching; engage in a practical, hands-on program of teaching; and provide strong mentoring to students
·       Provide curricular leadership in the history of art program
·       Engage in scholarly and subject related case studies
·       Provide service to the community
 
2.      Curriculum development:
·       Contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field and to build and expand the History of Art subject group
 
3.      Scholarly work
     
·       Publication record and clear evidence of agenda for continued research in the field of History of Art and Visual Studies
·       Contribution to the academic citizenship and development of the subject group
·       Development of the research niche ViNCO
·       Participation in research projects with colleagues
 
 
4.      Study Guidance:
·       Provide study guidance to graduate students on Honours, Masters and PhD levels
·       Proven record of study guidance
 
      5.      Administration and other tasks:
 
·       Responsible for all administrative tasks with regards to the above
·       Study guide development and update
·       Student marks and assessment
·       Share responsibility for committee and department assignments as required
·       Participate in services related to the life of the school and community
 
 

Minimum requirements

·       PhD in History of Art/Visual Studies or related

EXPERIENCE:
·       3 years’ teaching and supervising experience. Study supervision for postgraduate students
·       Clear evidence of a research agenda/ proven publication record
RECOMMENDATION:
 
·       Member of SAVAH, SAJAH, or any other applicable scholarly association

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
