Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To manage (based on the NWU Strategy and APP) the market research, data analytics and projects sub-department. Develop a market research programme to determine the market segmentation, positioning, trends and size informing the marketing strategy and plan. Further develop intelligent systems enhancing customer experience and manage the customer relationship management database to add value to the marketing strategy and plan with key focus on achieving the Enrolment Plan for undergraduate, postgraduate and distance learning. Reporting and dissemination of information for decision making and management of administrative functions in the department as requested by Director. Report on above on a regular basis to the Director.

Key Responsibilities:
1.    Management
  • Identifying and develop Market Research projects in collaboration with the Director.
  • Identify and implement databases and customer relationship management systems to support the departments’ marketing communication and recruitment functions.
  • Streamlining of administration processes in Department.
  • On-boarding and embedding of relevant systems into day to day processes together with training of staff in the department.
  • Utilise the existing data to monitor of activities, compilation of reports and keeping the Director and University up to date.
  • Effective management of sub-Department’s budget.
  • Represent the Department on relevant forums as required.
 
2. Market Research and Intelligence
  • Research relevant markets (undergrad, postgrad and distance learning) nationally and internationally to inform the brand, marketing communication and student recruitment strategies.
  • Research - Prospective Student Research, Customer experience, communication channels, market size, market decision influencers and fall out/drop out, information requirements, marketing communication channels and trends and create a prospective student journey map.
  • Research the school sector to determine the market size while taking into account the market environment to inform decisions on best schools for recruitment purposes.
  • Utilise and analyse secondary research reports e.g. Universum, LSM, own internal research on 1st years, seniors, etc. to determine current internal and external situations to identify competitive threats and opportunities in market.
  • Compile questionnaires and do research for market research.
  • Monitor and research youth market trends, overall market and jobs market trends.
  • Identify market opportunities in collaboration with Director and relevant managers.
  • Develop and execute evaluation tools to support the director and other managers to monitor the activities.
  • Utilise and ensure that available systems (e.g. HEDA, VSS etc.) work together to create one data point in generating reports and dissemination of information for decision making to measure effectiveness.
 
3. Customer Relationship Management Systems and Databases
  • Maintain and enhance databases and systems to support functioning of the larger department. On-boarding and embedding of relevant systems into day to day processes.
  • Enhance Customer Interaction and ensure that the lack of human resources is addressed through system/process initiatives.
  • Manage databases for each of the three target markets (postgrad, undergrad and distance learning) that: a) support the recruitment strategy, b) monitoring success rates and c) to support the recruitment communication campaigns.
  • Ensure that the relevant marketing information & data is captured and maintained to support the direct recruiters as well as the recruitment communication team in the field.
  • Ensure users receive sufficient training and understand how to utilise the systems.
  • Manage the electronic and other data capturing, curation and enhancement from the various sources.
  • Supporting and advise the relevant manager to enhance systems such as the interest index.
  • Management of Thoughts and complaints lines.
  • Ensure that tasks are automated utilising relevant technology (business WhatsApp, CRM, Chatbots etc) to enhance customer experience.
  • Work with the relevant manager to create and maintain triggered communications on the systems.
  • Curation of system information.
 
4. Ad-hoc projects            
  • Duties as required by Director in line with departmental objectives


Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12 (essential)
  • BComm or Relevant BsC (Hons) / Four Year Degree (NQF8) in Market Research / Marketing / Management (Essential)
 
FUNCTIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • 5 years experience in Market Research (Essential)
  • 5 years experience in Database Management(Essential)
  • 3 years experience in Project Management (Desirable)
  • 5 years experience in Business Process Management (Essential)
 
Functional & Technical competencies:
  • Experience in working on programmes such as Customer Relationship Management systems, Survey platforms (like Survey monkey), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Advanced knowledge in Excel, SPSS, Statistica or relevant programmes
  • Knowledge of compiling reports and analysing data.
  • Knowledge of Marketing and Tertiary environment
  • Financial management Communication and facilitation of communication in e-media

                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
