BACKGROUND TO NWU BUSINESS SCHOOL

THE CHIEF DIRECTOR - CORE JOB REQUIREMENTS
The North-West University is seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced strategic business leader-manager who is suitably qualified to head up the NWU Business School. The successful candidate will possess experience in all facets of
strategic and operational management applicable to a Business School. The next chief director will have a strong, sustained record of performance excellence, academic experience in postgraduate and executive education, and business research capability. The candidate will be an engaging communicator with empathetic and respectful listening skills; will have sound interpersonal and communication skills, be entrepreneurial and possess a sound knowledge and understanding of the future of business education in an African context.
      
Reporting to the vice-principal, the chief director will be part of the institutional senior management and will have to provide strong leadership and managerial support to all academic-, support- and administrative staff by developing talent,
inspiring innovation and advance a shared vision towards the business school’s future. The chief director will nurture living the institutional values and create a positive, engaged, and inclusive organisational culture within the school, enabling students and staff to excel on all levels.


Minimum requirements

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR APPOINTMENT TO THIS POST CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS:
  • A relevant Doctoral qualification plus at least 10 years relevant senior management experience, of which a minimum of 5 years has been in an academic leadership role in the higher educational environment with emphasis at a postgraduate level.
  • Commercial/corporate business experience of at least 5 years.
  • Strategic and operational management capabilities applied in a postgraduate academic context.
  • An in-depth knowledge of business trends and executive education at a higher education level – regionally, nationally and internationally.
  • Academic leader-manager capabilities with known expertise in a relevant academic discipline, both from a teaching and learning and applied business research perspective, including research publications, which would preferably warrant appointment at least at an associate professor level.
  • Knowledge and skills to commercialise the school’s capabilities ensuring financial viability.
  • Sound interpersonal and excellent communication skills on all levels of the organisation and society.
  • Good business networks and networking skills.
  • Authentic leadership characteristics.

REMUNERATION:
