Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Teaching
·         Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the subject group at undergraduate and postgraduate levels – mainly in contact/remote mode but also via distance
 
2.     Programme Development
·         Development of new modules and study material in Early Childhood Development and Education in the different programmes offered
 
3.    Research and Supervision
·         Research and Postgraduate Supervision in the field of ECDE, with appropriate publications
 
4.    WIL/Supervision
·         Work integrated learning
 
5.    Community Engagement
 
6.    Administration

Minimum requirements

·         Qualifications:

Professional Teacher’s Qualification in Foundation Phase or equivalent;

PLUS
For Junior Lecturer:
o   Honor's Degree in ECDE- or equivalent

For Lecturer:
o   Master’s Degree in ECDE - or equivalent

For Senior Lecturer:
o   Doctoral Degree In ECDE - or equivalent

·         Experience:
o   Three (3) years experience of ECDE practice or teaching in an ECDE environment
 
ADDED ADVANTAGE AND PREFERENCES:
·         Two (2) years of lecturing on full- or part-time basis in Higher Education
·         Registration with Professional Body: SACE
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Knowledge, skills and expertise in teaching in different modes of delivery to ensure quality teaching and learning practices and experiences (recommended)
·         Excellent command of English and language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment. Bi-, tri- and multi-lingualism will be beneficial
·         Knowledge, skills and expertise in teaching English in the Foundation Phase
·         Knowledge and skills in training pre-service teachers to teach English First Additional Language in multilingual environments (recommended)
·         Knowledge and skills on how to integrate Home Language, Mathematics and Life Skills with English First Additional Language, in order to develop learners’ holistic language proficiencies
·         Knowledge, skills and expertise in developing and designing assessment practices that ensure quality training of pre-service Foundation Phase teachers
·         Computer proficient – command of MS Word, MS Power point and Excel.
·         Experience of eFundi and online teaching platforms will be beneficial.

·         Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology)
·         Language skills to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU

· Ability to function effectively under pressure

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
