NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY MAHIKENG FACULTY/ DIVISION: Economic and Management Sciences POSITION NUMBER: M000329 POSITIN NAME: LECTURER (INFORMATION SYSTEMS) VACANCY: 1 PEROMNES GRADE: A 8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION A lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching and learning, research and community service efforts of the institution and to develop his/her professional activities relevant to the IS profession or discipline.
Job description

1.    Teaching and Learning
  • The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio  sessions.
  • Initiation and development of subject material.
2.    Development and Supervision
  • The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
  • Supervision of the program of study of honours students or of postgraduate students engaged in course work
  • Teaching activities include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of honours and research students.
3.    Research and Innovation
  • Supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects.
  • The conduct of research.
  • Involvement in professional activity.
4.    Development of Course materials
  • Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees.
  • Marking and assessment.
  • Consultation with students
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet
  • Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance
  • Research outputs
  • A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Effective time-management skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s degree is essential 

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
