Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Support and advisory roles in the planning, design, and development of curricula of new qualifications and programmes continuing education courses, advising, and monitoring roles for the amending of existing programmes.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum design and development advice and support:
  • Support and advice to academic leadership to perform a thorough external and internal situation analysis to determine the rationale for and purpose of the qualification, the target market, preferred mode of delivery, and planned graduate attributes, as well as available human and other resources to successfully offer the qualification and its planned programmes.
  • Support and advice to academics to develop the internal NWU qualification standard in compliance with the HEQSF and other relevant TL policy directives.
  • Support and advise faculty programme teams in the design of the credit structure, the learning components and curriculum composition of the programme(s) of the qualification, monitoring the implementation of national policy requirements for funding purposes, and professional body requirements if applicable.
  • Support and empower academics to perform curriculum and module mapping with a view to align the internal qualification standard with the intended outcomes and assessment of the composed curriculum.
  • Support and advice to academic leadership with regard to the preparation for external or internal programme reviews.
 
PQM development
  • Support and advice to academic leadership on the alignment of the planned qualification and programme(s) to the NWU strategy, success model, and market direction.
 
Internal compliance with regard to programmes and qualifications
  •  Support and advice to academics with regard to the amending of programmes and modules and continuing education courses that constitute only an internal Senate Committee for Academic Standards (SCAS) application.
  • Provide content level support (professionals) to SCAS online system users.
  • Support and advice to academic leadership to complete the necessary application for SCAS submission, consideration, and approval.
  • Advice SCAS with regard to the planning, design, and development of the qualification or continuing education courses concerned.
  • Act as SCAS member to screen and approve the curriculum design of a qualification and its programme(s) as well as proposed programme and module amendments to existing curriculum structures.
 
External compliance with regard to programmes and qualifications
  • Support to the Manager: External regulation with regard to external submissions and responses within stated timeframes.
 
Administration
  • Manage specific processes
  • Regular reporting to the Q&APP director
  • Attending Q&APP meetings
  •  Attending Faculty meetings
  • Manage personal effectiveness, wholeness, and development
 
Ad hoc tasks
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned by line manager for general functioning of the department.


Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Honours or Postgraduate Diploma at NQF 8 In Education or curriculum design and development
  • 3 years' experience in higher education, curriculum design and development
  • 2 years’ experience within a university environment
 
 
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:
 
Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
 
  • Good functional knowledge of national legislation with regard to qualification, programme development, and accreditation, inclusive of continuing education courses
  • Good knowledge and experience of administrative processes
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, office procedures, and terminology
  • Knowledge and skills with regard to the use of specific office software programs
  • Knowledge of principles for providing customer and personal services
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the appropriate language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
