Introduction
To provide support and assistance in the successful completion of the NWU Solar car Project. The position also includes undergraduate assistance at mechanical engineering.
Job description

Responsibilities:
1. Manufacturing and Assembly:
  • Need to be involved in manufacturing completion and improving the solar car, as required by the project team.
2. Testing and Operating the Vehicle:
  • Conduct component testing and system testing for the vehicle and implement strategies. Operate the vehicle during testing and competition.
3. Logistical Support:
  • Involved with the logistical arrangements in terms of the manufacturing, transport,competitions and test days, safety, risk assessments and other supports.
4. Marketing Efforts:
  • Involved during marketing days on the different campuses and with schools, and the competition itself.
5. Undergraduate Assistance:
  • Lecturer Assistant

Minimum requirements

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (completed or in process of finalisation)- (essential).
  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (essential).
  • 1 year experience in Solar car manufacturing (essential).
  • 1 year experience in operating the solar car (essential).
  • 1 year experience –know how of the current car & aspects surrounding testing & competitions (essential).
Functional/Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills):
  • Hands-on solar car manufacturing experience both mechanical and electrical/electronic.
  • In-depth knowledge of the design and components used in the solar car, to repair, maintain and operate.
  • Knowledge about the solar car competition and the rules thereof.
Behavioural Competencies:
  • Good time management.
  • Can work under pressure.
  • Precision in work being done.
  • Team player, but also need to be able to execute tasks individually.
