NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY OF EDUCATION SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION VACANCY: PROFESSOR (RESEARCH) PEROMNES NUMBER: A5 PERMANENT POSITION POSITION NUMBER: N002962 Purpose of the position: To manage research outputs and productivity in line with the NWU strategy for Research and Innovation, provide academic leadership and guidance on post-graduate programme development, and joint accountability for the integration of research outputs into Teaching and Learning.
Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Co-determine the Research Plan and joint accountability with Deputy Dean Research and Innovation for the implementation thereof.
  • Jointly accountable for the successful implementation of the NWU Teaching and Learning plan.
  • Translate the Research Plan into a campus implementation plan and operationalize.
  • Scholarly guidance, innovation, and initiation with regard to research in any field of Education.
  • Conduct own research.
  • Active involvement in the Faculty of Education and the School of Mathematics Science and Technology Education
  • Mentoring of researchers, including creating development opportunities.
  • Acquiring external funding for research.
  • Drive and manage research productivity, output, and quality aligned to the Research Plan

Minimum requirements

  • Ph.D. in the relevant subject field, with a focus on Mathematics Education/Science Education/Technology Education/ Geography Education/Environmental Studies Education.
  • Currently employed in the field of Higher Education with extensive independent experience and initiative in research, with at least 6 years relevant experience.
  • Must be experienced as an Associate Professor in Higher Education with the potential to transition into a Research Professor.
  • Proven research and publication record.
  • Appropriate academic and professional networks.
  • Completed supervision of Master’s and Ph.D. students and involvement in the supervision of Masters and Doctoral students.

Recommended competencies: 
  • NRF rated researcher.
  • Leader of funded research projects.
 
Functional/technical competencies (knowledge and skills):
  • Research, interpersonal, communication, and computer literacy skills
  • Proven record of presenting/attending relevant national and international conferences.
  • Thorough knowledge of the RSA Higher Education system.
  • Well-developed information and communication technology proficiency.
  • Acceptable management accountancy proficiency
  • Aptitude in managing the research-innovation value chain
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
