Job description

Purpose of the position: Create a safe and secure environment for students, academic staff, support staff, contractors and visitors (campus community) at the North-West University through: Management, control and investigation of crime, student and staff disciplinary cases as Supervisor IIS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Manage: Incident Investigation Services
General Supervision and tasks.
  • Ensure that investigators of IIS attend and manage crime scenes.
  • Ensure that effective crime scene management take place in cases and incidents reported at Protection Services.
  • Manages the investigation case load, monitoring the current status and time lines of each reported case.
  • Coordinate the work load of IIS investigators through assignment and management of case dockets.
  • Provides senior investigation expertise and advice to IIS investigators on all investigative activity.
  • Liaise with external Government departments regarding case progress, suspects and outcome etc. (SAPS, SSA, Judiciary etc.).
  • Refer relevant cases to Labour Relations, Disciplinary Office, Contract Companies and SAPS for prosecutions in appropriate cases.
  • Ensure that Investigation dairies on CHASE is up to date.
  • Ensure that evidence is controlled, marked and managed by IIS investigators.
  • Ensure that ISS conduct reactive and pro-active
  • investigations in high risk areas.
 
Manage the administration, information and feedback regarding investigations.
  • Provide timely information to the Department Head and Director: Protection Services on investigated related matters.
  • Ensure feedback to complainants in cases reported at Protection Services.
  • Ensure that all sensitive investigated-related information is handled with confidentiality.
  • Ensure the compilation of daily incident reports regarding incidents reported, progress of investigations, threats and risks, reported at Department of Protection Services.
  • Deal with grievances and conflict situations.
  • Ensure achievement of personnel in ISS.
  • Consult and engage with departmental Management Team.
  • Review achievement of personnel in ISS.
  • Attend meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Plan leave and manage absenteeism to ensure effective service delivery in ISS.
  • Develop effective tactics and strategies to prevent victimization and to reduce crime at the Institution.
  • Ensure that Incident Investigation Services submit 1 report monthly to Department Head regarding: Categorisation of new cases, Detection rate, Disposal rate, Cases withdrawn, Number of cases where University property were involved, Value of University property damaged or stolen.,Number of Student Disciplinary Cases, Number of Staff cases, Attendance of complaints.
  • Completing ad-hoc tasks delegated by the Management Team: Protection Services.
 
Supervision of Tactical Response Team
  • Ensure that TRT members patrol hot spots on every shift and perform observation duties to prevent incidents and crime.
  • Ensure that TRT members execute static roadblocks.
  • Ensure that TRT members execute crowd control during special events such as RAG, Varsity Cup, Open Day, and Protests, Bashes, etc.
  • Ensure that TRT members assist the Control Officer in the attendance of complaints.
  • Ensure that TRT members assist in Access Control when needed.
  • Ensure that TRT members administer traffic fines.
  • Ensure that TRT members execute searches at various hot spots.
  • Ensure that TRT members assist in static guarding duty when needed.
  • Ensure that TRT members assist in VIP protection when needed

Minimum requirements


·       National Diploma/ Advanced Certificate in security/policing/law;
·       Two years’ experience in investigation techniques;
·       A valid drivers license;
·       PSIRA Grade A;
