NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) DIVISION: DVC: CAMPUS OPERTAIONS DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY VACANCY: DIGITAL STRATEGIST OFFICER PEROMNES NUMBER: 5 POSITION NUMBER: NEW PERMANENT APPOINTMENT Purpose of the position: The Digital Strategist Officer (DSO) is responsible for the co-development and execution of the NWU Digital Business Strategy (DBS), ensuring that this strategic transformation redefines NWU in Higher Education and take NWU to sector leadership over 5 to 10 years. The DSO champions the use of information technology in business model design and all aspects of the business to create business success. The DSO may also execute on some or all-digital initiatives.
Job description

Responsibilities:
Co-Development of Digital Strategy
·       As part of the digital transformation team, co-leads the process to identify and evaluate internal digital asset capabilities and strengths.
·       Assesses external digital opportunities and threats as key inputs to make the best decisions on business digital strategy, given digital realities.
·       Provide external and internal foresight in strategy development.
Digital Strategy Implementation
·       Leads the execution of the digital business strategy and roadmap and ensures its integration with the enterprise strategic planning process, and the resulting business strategy and plans.
·       Provides a single point of coordination and execution oversight for all digital initiatives and transformation projects.
·       Ensures that the enterprise is developing the digital assets and capabilities that will be needed to survive and thrive in the midterm and long term.
Championing and change management of the Digital Strategy
·       Acts as a champion and change agent in leading the organisational changes required to create and sustain enterprise digital capabilities.
·       Defines and reports on digital business KPIs and metrics that represent progress against digital goals.
Stakeholder Relations
·       Acts as a thought leader on emerging digital business models and technologies, articulating the digital future and the enterprise & role in it, internally and externally.
·       Builds and maintains external relationships in academia, as well as with industry bodies, vendors, and technology analysts to learn and influence.
·       Collaborates with the CIO and IT organisation to develop and exploit new digital business solutions to create a competitive edge for the enterprise. May also own and lead development teams and projects directly.
·       Partners with the HR function to build digital talent in the enterprise.
Digital Market Research
·       Co-ordinating a small team of analysts, researchers, technologists, and champions in executing the institution & digital business mission. Incubates new institutional capabilities.
The following will be desirable:
·       Digital Transformation Qualification in Short Accredited courses
·       Five (5) years’ Senior Management experience in strategy and management consulting

Minimum requirements

·       A Master’s Degree in Information Technology and/or Business Administration or equivalent (NQF Level 9)
·       Ten (10) years’ Senior Management experience in Business Management, IT Management, or responsibilities
·       Five (5) years’ Management Progressive Leadership experience in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs, operating and influence effectively across the organisation and within a complex context
·       Five (5) years’ Senior Management experience in informative-intensive industries or digitally advanced enterprises
·       Five (5) years’ Senior Management experience in innovating business models and developing new channels, business models, or business transformation
Functional/Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills):
·       Deep understanding of the evolving digital world on both the demand side (how people/companies are using technology) and the supply side (emerging technologies)
·       Extensive knowledge of digital transformation preferably in Higher Education
·       Strong business acumen including domain-specific knowledge of the company and its business units
·       Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking and consulting skills
·       Strong influence and negotiation skills
·       Ability to effectively drive people, process, and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment
·       Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain digital concepts and technologies to business leaders, as well as business concepts to technologists
