Job description

The purpose of the position is to assist in the development of web content in a way that supports the migration of the NWU’s website to the Drupal 8 Content Management System and to manage the NWU online events calendar.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
1.    Development of events on the electronic calendar showcasing NWU events that will be compatible with Drupal 8
There has been a sharp increase in online events due to the COVID pandemic, most of which needs a presence on NWU website. Ensure content optimisation for target audiences through CID approved graphics and effective use of Drupal elements such as accordions. Ensure that calendar events are created for optimal migration to Drupal 8.
2.    Residence websites
Updating, managing and quality control of residences websites. Develop a "checklist" of minimum requirements for residences pages to communicate to new HC each year. It is crucial that residences sites are optimal in the absence of contact Open Days due to COVID-19.
3.    Content development on studies subdomain
Assistance to Student Recruitment and Marketing with updating of Studies pages. This includes undergraduate and postgraduate offerings at the NWU
4.    Ad-hoc content development
Ad-hoc content development and optimisation tasks as requested by line manager (such as staff profiles) in preparation of Drupal 8 migration

Minimum requirements

·         Bachelors’ Degree (NQF7) in Journalism, Copy Writing, Corporate Communication or similar (Essential)
·         3 years’ experience in publication (digital and e-media) (Essential)
·         3 years’ experience in communication-written and spoken word ((Essential)
·         2 years’ experience in Web content development using Drupal 8 platform (Essential)
·         2 years’ working knowledge of the internet including HTML and information architecture (Essential)
·          2 years’ experience in networking and liaising (Essential)
·         2 years’ experience in corporate identity and branding (Essential)
·         2 years’ experience in higher education environment (Essential)
 
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
·         Communication and facilitation of communication in e-media
·         Project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closure
·         Data interpretation skills and research (user statistics)
·         Proficiency in the Drupal 8 content management system
·         Excellent computer skills (MS Office suite, Internet, email)
·         Web content and information management
·         Understanding of the technical aspects of website development

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
