Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Operational activities
2.      Result interpretation
3.      Method development, validation, quality assurance, and accreditation
4.      General laboratory maintenance
5.      Administrative duties
6.      Continuous professional development and registration
7.      Liaise with external clients
8.      Ad hoc tasks
9.      Academic support

Minimum requirements

·       Honours in Biochemistry/equivalent qualification in Bio-medical field.
·       Two (2) years experience in an analytical biochemistry laboratory.
·       Three (3) years experience in GC/LC-MS analysis and troubleshooting.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
·       Registry with the HPCSA in a biomedical qualification.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·       One (1) year of experience working with a LIMS.
·       Compiling worksheets and processing all specimens in the Lab. 
·       Proficient analytical preparation
·       Know-how to operate an LC/GC-MS.
·       Enter all results onto LIMS.
·       Make sure that positive results are being treated as URGENT
·       Perform maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and internal and external quality controls. 
·       Record temperatures of fridges, freezers, and incubators on the relevant charts. Take action if readings are out of the limit and document each action taken.
·       Implement safety rules and SOP’s. Ensure all safety rules are adhered to and keep Safety Data Sheets updated.
