Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Conduct special investigations and report to internal structures and the authorities. Support and make recommendations to improve the anti-fraud strategy and engage in fraud prevention sessions/training. Follow-up special enquiries, deviances identified through continuous monitoring, and irregularities and misconduct reported in the University environment. Reporting significant matters to the Audit Manager for reporting to Management and the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Conduct special investigations on reported allegations
·       Conduct special investigations following ACFE/ICFP standards & NWU process guidelines
·       Third-party confirmations and verification of supporting documentation/evidence received during investigations
·       Quality financial losses suffered by the NWU
·       Confrontation meetings to clarify allegations, communicate report findings & recommendations to management prior to the issuance of draft & final reports
·       Maintain detailed working papers and evidence files as preparation of hearings and court proceedings
2.      Use data analytics to identify anomalies observed during investigations
·       Perform testing procedures using data analytics software
·       Communicate possible fraud risks during reporting
·       Identify and follow-up on deviances using the continuous monitoring system to report fraud-risk indicators & control deficiencies
3.      Maintain a SAPS Register & conduct quarterly follow-ups on reported cases
·       Maintain a SAPS case register detailing feedback on civil and criminal matters affecting the NWU, as reported by IA
·       Conduct quarterly follow-ups with the SAPS Station Commander concerning reported criminal/civil cases
4.      Perform ad hoc duties at management’s request
·       Prepare Advisory Memo’s for Ad-hoc enquiries completed
·       Advise management of fraud risks identified during special investigations
·       Present/take-part in internal fraud awareness training session related
·       Conduct background searches on behalf of NWU clients
5.      General office and ad hoc duties
·       Version control special investigation reports
·       Reference evidence collected and maintain a register for each investigation conducted
·       Adhere to professional standards of conduct & reporting

Minimum requirements

·       B. Com (Forensic / Accounting / Internal Audit)
·       Memberships with ACFE, FP (SA) [ICFP] or IIASA
·       3 years experience in taking full responsibility for managing and performing forensic investigations & related activities
·       5 years experience in Audit software / Financial Systems
·       5 years experience in MS Office (Word / Excel)
ADDITIONAL
·       B. Com Hons. (Forensic / Account / Internal Audit) or LLB degree
·       Chartered Accountant / Certified Internal Auditor / Certified Forensic Practitioner
·       3 years completed article / internship / investigation experience
·       Experience in Fraud Awareness & Training
