NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY: POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS FACULTY/ DIVISION: FACULTY OF NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: P001284 VACANCY: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Teaching and research of Geology and Soil Sciences in the School.
Job description

1. Teaching
·          Teaching at undergraduate level in Geology and/or Soil Sciences.
2. Research
·          Undertake research within the Unit for Environment Sciences and Management on issues of Geology.
·          Supervision of post-graduate students.
·          Produce research output through international and national accredited articles.
·          Fundraising for research.
3. Administration
·          Administrative tasks including curriculum development.
4. Community engagement
·          Application of expertise in communities to address local identified issues of Geology.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Essential: Petrology and/or Structural Geology, Desirable; Mining/Economic Geology and/or another geological field.
·         Essential: Laboratory experience (e.g. microscopy, XRF/XRD).
·         Essential: Geological field work including geological mapping.
·         Desirable: Specialised Software skills/GIS/Modelling/Statistics.

·         Work under pressure
·         Good communicator

Minimum requirements

·          MSc in Geology.
·          Three (3) years’ experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.

ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
·          PhD in Geology.
·          One (1) year experience in undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
·          SACNASP registration.
