PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Teaching, research, and community engagement in the field of Early Childhood Development and Education with a focus on teaching Afrikaans as a Home Language and First Additional Language for all four-year levels of BEd Foundation Phase.

Minimum requirements
· Professional Teacher’s Qualification in Foundation Phase Education OR ECDE – with Afrikaans as LoLT; and an Honours degree in ECDE OR Afrikaans for Education OR Learner Support OR equivalent.
· Two (2) years experience in ECDE practice teaching in Afrikaans Home Language in an ECDE school environment.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
· SACE registration.
· Two (2) years of experience in higher education lecturing on a full-or part-time basis.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Knowledge, skills, and expertise in teaching Afrikaans in the Foundation Phase.
· Knowledge, skills, and expertise in teaching in different modes of delivery to ensure quality teaching and learning practices and experiences.
· Knowledge and skills in training pre-service teachers to teach Afrikaans as a Home and First Additional Language in multilingual environments.
· Knowledge and skills on how to integrate Afrikaans Home Language, Mathematics, and Life Skills with the intention of developing learners’ holistic language proficiencies.
· Knowledge and skills on how to adjust pedagogy to teach Afrikaans at Home Language and First Additional Language levels.
· Knowledge, skills, and expertise in developing and designing assessment practices that ensure quality training of pre-service Foundation Phase teachers.
· Computer proficiency – command of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience with a tertiary LMS (preferably eFundi) and online teaching platforms.
· Language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment.
