Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teaching
 Teach introductory and advanced level courses to a diverse student
body, including specialty courses in broadcasting or, journalism or, development communication.
 Bring enthusiasm and strong pedagogy to teaching and learning;
 Engage in a practical, hands-on program of teaching; and provide strong
mentoring to students.
 Provide curricular leadership in the broadcasting or, journalism or development communication program.
 Engage in Scholarly and subject related case studies.
 Provide service to the Institution.
 Provide service to the Community.
 Community Engagement - School Visits
• Curriculum Development
 Contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field, and
to build and expand the broadcasting or, journalism or
development communication subject group across all campuses.
• Scholarly work
 Publication record and clear evidence of agenda for continued
research in the field of broadcasting or, journalism or,
development communication
 Participation in research projects with colleagues.
 Completed his/her Phd studies, with an extensive research articles as an added advantage.
• Study Guidance
 Provide study guidance to graduate students on an honours and Masters level. Study guidance on Doctoral level in the case of a candidate with a PhD.
 Responsible for all administrative tasks with regards to the above
 Study guide development and update.
 Student marks and assessment.
 Share responsibility for committee and department assignments as
required.
 Contribute to the Faculty Committees as well as University Committees.
 Participate in services related to the life of the School and the community

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s degree in Communication with specialisation in Broadcasting or,
Journalism or Development Communication
• 2 years’ experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate
• 2 years’ practical experience in broadcasting or, journalism or, development communication specialisation in the SA industry, government related or international will be an added advantage
• Professional membership with SACOMM or, SACIA, etc. will be an added advantage
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
• Knowledge of higher education and industry related environment
• Sound understanding of the Broadcasting or, Journalism or, Development Communication discipline.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
• Team player within groups
• Sound relations with colleagues
• Able to work independently
• Ethical principles and academic integrity
