Job description

Community-based educational research requires i) that academic and community representatives work together towards a common goal to, ii) take action to attain social justice outcomes that improve the life of the community members involved, drawing on, iii) multiple forms of knowledge generated through multiple means of “discovery and dissemination” (Strand et al., 2003, p. 8). The driving purpose of CBER is to assist community members to take action to improve their social, educational and economic circumstances. The research focus thus shifts from the pursuit of knowledge for knowledge sake, towards enabling practical action to ensure that change does occur. Community-based research involves co-generation of knowledge and mutual transfer of expertise, shared decision-making and community ownership of all products of the research

Minimum requirements

Post-doctoral candidates who are within 5 years of completing their PhD, and are able to are invited to apply for a one-year postdoctoral research fellowship within COMBER at the Potchefstroom campus. The position could be extended to three years, dependent on performance. The candidate must be interested in community-based educational research and keen to publish articles.
