NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: IT ACADEMIC AND OFFICE SOLUTIONS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY POSITION NUMBER: N001446 VACANCY: DIRECTOR PEROMNES GRADE: P5 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Director is responsible for the general management of all positions and activities of the Academic and Office solutions department within the IT division. This includes resourcing, planning, communication and co-ordination with stakeholders and partners, content management, IT skills and software portfolio management.
Job description

1.    Strategic Management
·        Primary responsibility for IT academic and office solutions and skills management strategies. Optimal alignment to industry and higher-level IT and institutional strategies. 
2.    People Management
·        Optimal organisation of recruitment, development, leadership, control and performance of human resources in the department.
·        Provides organisational leadership and guidelines to promote the development and exploitation of technical knowledge in the organisation
3.    Financial Management
·        Sets strategy and develop plans, policies and processes for the accounting, budgeting and, where applicable, charging of IT resources and services, including the definition of cost models and charging models.
·        Compiles, motivates, negotiates, agrees and manages all financial budgets and targets, ensuring that there is adequate funding for all IT targets and plans, especially to meet development and capacity needs.
4.    Stakeholder and Partner Management
·        Supports business change, acting as a single point of contact for senior stakeholders, facilitating relationships between them.
·        Ensures that stakeholders understand available IT services and promotes financial and commercial awareness in order to deliver value-for-money.
·        Conducts analysis of demand for services and influences stakeholders to ensure that the necessary investments are made to deliver required services.
·        Negotiates at senior level on technical and commercial issues, to ensure that customers, suppliers and other stakeholders understand and agree what will meet their needs, and that appropriate service level agreements are defined.
·        Oversees monitoring of relationships including lessons learned and appropriate feedback. Initiate’s improvement in services, products and systems
 
5.    Academic and Office Solution Management
·        Manages the research and analyses of customer demands and supply enterprise, sustainable solutions.
·        Engage with and influence senior management to ensure the solutions will deliver the agreed strategic objectives.
·         Plans, schedules, monitors and reports on activities related to the solutions portfolio
·        Identifies issues, cost, risk, inter-dependencies, impact on current business activities and the strategic benefits to be realised.
·        License management
 
6.    IT Program Management
·        Plans, directs, and co-ordinates activities to manage and implement programs from contract /proposal initiation to final operational stage; plans, schedules, monitors, and reports on activities related to programs.
·        Ensures that programs are managed to realise business benefits.
 
7.    Risk Management
·        Plans and manages the implementation of IT risk procedures, tools and techniques for the identification, assessment, and management of risk inherent in the operation of IT platforms & Infrastructure and of potential risks arising from planned IT-enabled change.
 
8.    Cyber Security
·        Initiate and participate in creating awareness of the impact of security breaches. Responsible for portfolio application security.

Minimum requirements

·        Post Degree Studies
·        B Degree in Information Technology
·        Applicable Courses for technical and Managerial Skills
 
EXPERIENCE:
·        10 years’ experience in IT Management
·        7 years’ experience in People management in an IT environment
·        7 years’ experience in University services experience
·        5 years’ experience in IT Industry experience

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
