VACANCY: DEPUTY DIRECTOR SCHOOL FOR LANGUAGE EDUCATION (SLE)

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Directing SLE on the Vaal campus in terms of Key Performance Areas for both academic and support staff.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and Learning
· Promote excellent learning and teaching and reposition the NWU to attain the size and shape required by market direction decisions.
2. Research and Innovation
· Intensify research and innovation in the school
3. Community Engagement and service learning
o Integrate and align community engagement with core activities (teaching and learning and research) and promote sustainability principles.
4. Student value
· Develop a clearly differentiated student value proposition
5. Staff development
· Develop and retain excellent staff and create an equitable staff and student profile.
6. People Management
· Leadership and management; manage employment equity, diversity and transformation
7. Risk and compliance management
· Risk management, compliance and business continuity
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements
· PhD in Language Education
· Education professional qualification in Language teaching methodologies / didactics
· 3-5 years functional and subject related experience, preferably primary and or secondary teaching experience and tertiary teaching experience
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
· SACE registration
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Subject knowledge: English/Afrikaans/African Languages
· Teaching skills: Language Methodology and Didactics
· Assessment competencies
· Computer literate (Microsoft Office Suite)
· Involvement in supervision or co-supervision of postgraduate qualifications
