PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The successful candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules in Computer Science Education. For Senior Lecturer supervision of postgraduate students and to do research in Computer Science Education will also be expected. Other duties include carrying out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional career relevant to the profession or discipline in terms of research and community engagement and all other duties required by a senior lecturer, such as developing new modules, developing study guides, managing the LMS and administrative tasks.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. . Teaching and learning
- To facilitate teaching and learning of modules in Computer Applications Technology education, Information Technology education and computer literacy in distance and contact mode to undergraduate and postgraduate modules. This includes all aspects involved in teaching and learning such as facilitating classes in online and distance mode, managing the LMS, curriculum development, the development of study guides, compiling assessments, marking of assessments, and participating in work integrated learning.
- To supervise post-graduate students up to PhD level for Senior Lecturer.
2. Research
- Do research in Computer Science Education (e.g., writing of and participating in research projects, publishing in accredited journals, presenting papers at conferences etc.) or to do a PhD (if appointed as Lecturer).
3. Community engagement
- Be involved in or initiate community engagement projects.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD for Senior Lecturer and a relevant master’s degree for Lecturer in Computer Science or Computer Science education. (Undergraduate qualification with Relevant qualification with major specialisation in Computer Science on third year level or a B.Ed. qualification with specialisation in CAT or IT.)
- Relevant initial teachers’ qualification, e.g.B.Ed., B. Com & PGCE with major in Computer Applications Technology or Information Technology on third year level.
- 2 years Teaching experience relevant to CAT and IT education. (Computer Applications Technology or Information Technology in the FET phase and/or relevant teaching experience in Higher Education)
- Post-graduate supervision (For Senior Lecturer) Completed post-graduate supervision of at least one master's study.
- Research publications (For Senior Lecturer) At least two publications in accredited journals.
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
· Undergraduate qualification has third year programming qualification
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Excellent knowledge of subject related concepts to facilitate Computer Applications Technology education and/or Information Technology education modules for undergraduate and post-graduate students.
· Excellent knowledge and skills in applying active teaching and learning strategies to facilitate teaching and learning in CAT and/or IT in blended learning environments to enhance self-directed learning.
· Excellent computer skills in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and HTML
· Competent research and academic writing skills and in research design and methodologies
· Excellent planning and problem-solving skills.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
