NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (Potchefstroom CAMPUS) FACULTY OF EDUCATION SCHOOL OF COMMERCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES IN EDUCATION VACANCY: Senior Lecturer for History in Education POSITION NUMBER: P001444 PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PEROMNES: A7 Purpose of the position: To fill a vacant position in the History in Education Subject group so as to ensure quality teaching and learning; to strengthen the Subject Group’s research profile; to mentor junior academic staff; and to expand community engagement.
Job description

Responsibilities:

  • Partake in lecturing classes in post and undergraduate levels in History in Education
  • Managing teaching and learning processes for the distance as well as on-campus mode of delivery Publish articles and book chapters, as well as presenting papers at conferences
  • Publish articles and book chapters, as well as presenting papers at conferences
  • Supervision of Masters’ and Doctoral students
  • Engage in community outreach/implementation of expertise
  • Programme and curriculum development of new under and postgraduate level degrees, diplomas and certificates as well as short learning programs in History in Education
  • Knowledge and competence of integrating ICT platforms in teaching and learning Supervision of Masters’ and Doctoral students
  • Voluntarily participate in curriculum related community engagement
  • Commitment towards initiating and expanding research in the History in Education subject group

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 
  • PhD in History in Education
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of Honours and Bachelor’s degree in History in Education is essential plus a minimum of two articles published in an accredited journal
  • Proven record of completed supervision of Masters to completion and involvement in PhDs in History in Education

Other Essential competencies required:


  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Effective time-management skills
  • Computer literacy (MS office, knowledgeable about cloud storage) Experience in teaching and learning material development
  • Competent in the use of variety of teaching, learning and assessment methodologies

Professional status

  •  HASHT Registrations
  • Membership accreditation with any other Education related professional bodies is desirable
