Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The School of Communication Studies at the NWU (Vanderbijlpark Campus) has one vacancy for a Junior Lecturer in the vibrant and dynamic field of communication, the subject field of Corporate Communication and/or Journalism.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Scholarly work (Research & Innovation)
- Publication record and clear evidence of agenda for continued research in the field of Corporate communication and/or Journalism.
- Participation in research projects with colleagues, experience in generating new projects and grants or funding for these projects.
- Identify and manage possible research projects for collaboration with various partners.
- Identify potential sources of funding or grants for research-based projects and outcomes
2. Teaching and Learning
- Teach introductory and advanced level research courses to a diverse student body.
- Provide research leadership in the corporate communication and/or journalism communication program.
- Engage in scholarly and subject-related case studies
3. Administration and other tasks
- Responsible for all administrative tasks with regards to the above.
Minimum requirements
- An Honours Degree in Communication/Journalism is essential
- An established publication record is desirable.
- Project and finance Management is desirable.
- Mentoring (desirable).
- NRF rating (desirable).
- International networking (desirable).
- People Management skills (desirable).
- Registration with SACOMM, PRISA is desirable.
FUNCTIONAL EXPERIENCE
- 5 years experience in teaching (desirable).
- 5 years of practical experience as a corporate communication/Journalism specialist (desirable).
FUNCTIONAL & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Must be within higher education.
- Must be within an industry-related environment.
- Sound understanding of the broad Corporate Communication or Journalism discipline.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Team player within groups
- Sound relations with colleagues
- Able to work independently
- Ethical principles and academic integrity
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
