Purpose of the position: To manage research outputs and productivity in line with the NWU strategy for Research and Innovation, provide academic leadership and guidance on post-graduate programme development, and joint accountability for the integration of research outputs into Teaching and Learning.
Job description
JOB SPECIFICATION:
- Co-determine the Research Plan and joint accountability with Deputy Dean Research and Innovation1 for the implementation thereof
- Jointly accountable for the successful implementation of the NWU Teaching and Learning plan
- Translate the Research Plan into a campus implementation plan and operationalise
- Scholarly guidance, innovation, and initiation with regard to research in any field of Education.
- Conducting own research.
- Active involvement in the Faculty and the School of Mathematics Science and Technology Education.
- Mentoring of researchers, including creating development opportunities.
- Acquiring external funding for research.
- Drive and manage research productivity, output, and quality aligned to the Research Plan
Minimum requirements
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (Science Education and/or Mathematics)
- Currently employed in the field of Higher Education with extensive independent experience and initiative in research with at least 6 years relevant experience
- Proven research and publication record
- Appropriate academic and professional networks
- Completed supervision of Masters and Ph.D. students and Involvement in the supervision of Masters and Doctoral students.
Recommended competencies:
- NRF rated researcher.
- Leader of funded research projects.
Functional/technical competencies (knowledge and skills)
- Research skills, interpersonal, communication, and computer literacy
- Proven record of presenting/attending relevant national and international conferences.
- Teamwork.
- Membership of appropriate academic and professional networks
- Thorough knowledge of the RSA Higher Education system
- Well-developed information and communication technology proficiency
- Acceptable management accountancy proficiency
- Aptitude in managing the research-innovation value chain
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
