Job description

  • Teaching and Learning -Preparation and presentation of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes, and workshops; marking and assessment. Production of teaching materials for students for whom the employee has responsibility. Attend courses with a view of developing professional skills.
  • Research- Conducting of research; supervision of students. Develop his scholarly, research and/or professional expertise.
  • Administrative and subject group involvement -Administrative functions primarily connected with subjects in which the employee teaches. Acting as module coordinator. Attendance at School and/or Faculty meetings and/or membership of Committees.
  • Community Service-Involvement in professional activity.

Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL B) is essential.
  • An LL M in any field in law and studying towards an LLD is essential. The Master’s degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above.
 
EXPERIENCE
  • 1-2 years’ experience in academia is desirable
  • Publications in accredited journals is desirable
  • Proven record of effective post-graduate supervision is desirable
  • 1-2 years’ admission as an attorney or an advocate, or experience in legal practice
 
 
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:
 
Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as email, Internet and the electronic retrieval of legal sources
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU
  • Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
Behavioral Competencies
 
  • Good interpersonal relations.

  • Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
