Job description

Teaching and Learning
·        Take responsibility for a full lecturing load on the ALDE/A 111, 112 and 122 modules; related administrative tasks; guided development of learning materials for academic literacy modules; the setting of tests and examinations.
 
Research
·        Improve qualifications to Masters Level; contribute towards the research output of the School of languages. Committed to focusing future studies and research to the field of Academic Literacy.
 
Management and University service
·        Fulfilling management tasks and duties in service of the university as a whole, as they arise.
 
Community Engagement
·        Involvement in relevant community service projects.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications
 
·        MA degree in Linguistics / Applied linguistics or related field is essential (NQF 9)
 
Experiences
 
·        3 years’ related experience of teaching Academic Literacy
·        2 years’ experience as a lecturer at a tertiary institution

ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES
 
·        Memberships in SAALT (South African Association for Language Teaching) would be desirable
 
 
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:
·        Fundamental knowledge of key issues in the development of Academic Literacy
·        Excellent communication skills
·        Excellent level of computer literacy and LMS development
·        Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
·        Ability to teach in both Afrikaans and English
 
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·        Excellent administrative and organising ability
·        Ability and willingness to work as part of a team
·        Ability to self-motivate
