The incumbent will be responsible for rendering friendly, effective and a professional general information service to undergraduate-, postgraduate students, academics, visitors and telephonic users; to give informal training to users in the use of relevant information resources, to accompany visitors, to assist with technical problems and room bookings as well as to show gaps in the collection as identified during assistance of users.
Job description
· Handle telephonic and email queries from NWU students and staff as well as from outside visitors and refer them to relevant staff members as needed
· Provide general information services to all groups of library users at the Information desk
· Provide informal training on finding books and room bookings
· Render administrative support within Information Services
· Assist in access control for the Research and Honours Commons
· Collection building regarding general sources needed by staff and students
Minimum requirements
· B. Bibl. or B. Information Science or B degree plus post-graduation qualification in Librarianship
o 1-2 years’ library experience
· LIASA Membership
Other competency requirements
· Good understanding of the broader context of the academic learning environment
· Knowledge of the operation of library services in a Tertiary institution
· Knowledge of the use of a library system (Circulation and Catalogue modules), and information provision in an academic environment
· Computer literacy and knowledge of MS Office, Groupwise and web technology
· Knowledge of latest developments of Library information technology.
· Time management, good judgment and decision-making ability
· Strong customer service and client service orientation.
· Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Afrikaans, for the liaison with faculty staff and students.
· Problem solving, conflict and decision making skills for customer service, problem solving.
· Ability to work independently and as a team player in a team.
Recommendation.
1-2 years’ general and basic information service to library users on different levels
1-2 years’ clientele service or Information services will be a recommendation.
