Job description

  • Develop and ensure the implementation of operational plans for the Unit by setting targets and priorities
  • Ensure proper delegation and coordination of Unit activities
  • Supervision of Clinic staff and emergency medical services on campus and ensure that duties are discharged optimally and processes and procedures are adhere to
  • Provide strategic leadership in the Unit in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the University
  • Ensure financial stability of the Unit through budgeting and monitoring of income and expenditure
  • Set quality standards for the Unit, monitor and evaluate the outcomes of those standards in order to plan for the shortcomings
  • Compile unit reports and improvement plans on a monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual basis
  • Ensure high level of ethical and good clinical practice standards
  • Provide guidance with respect to the Unit’s Asset Holder and thus ensuring availability and proper utilisation of resources
  • Administer stock procurement and control in accordance with the Good Pharmacy Practice and the University’s inventory procedures and financial policies on procurement
  • Provide supervision on the provision of comprehensive Primary Health Care services to the NWU health care clientele
  • Coordinate health care promotion activities on campus with other relevant stakeholders
  • Provide clinical support and guidance as an expert in all NWU business units
  • Ensure that the Unit adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety requirements

Minimum requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Nursing
  • Post-basic qualification in Nursing
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
  • 5 years’ experience in the provision of Comprehensive Primary Health Care
  • Certificate in dispensing
  • Certificate in Nurse Initiated Management of Antiretroviral Therapy (NIMART)
  • Certificate in Provider Initiated Counselling and Testing /Voluntary Counselling and Testing of HIV (PICT/VCT)

Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
  • Knowledge of National Indicator Data Set (NIDS).
  • Knowledge of District Health Information System.
  • Knowledge of Ideal Clinic Realisation Model.
  • Knowledge of National Core Standards in ensuring quality health care service.
  • Knowledge of National Health Act and other relevant legislations governing health care service in RSA.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and non-verbal.
  • Sound knowledge of financial management processes and policies.
  • Computer literacy (MS word, excel and power point)
  • High level of competency on the Nursing Process.
  • People and conflict management
