Job description
Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory management:
- Line management of staff.
- Responsible for daily operation of laboratories, including access control
- Strategic planning for sustainable growth
- Control maintenance schedules for specialist equipment
- Asset control
2. OHS:
- School OHS coordinator
- Administration of OHS meetings and inspections
- School representative on Faculty OHS committee
- Control and supervision of OHS processes, HIRA’s and procedure (students and staff)
- OHS and certification control and management
3. Chemicals and consumables:
- Stock control of consumables
- Hazardous Chemical Substance Controller (legal appointment)
4. Training:
- Training of staff and students on the use of specialist equipment
- HIRA training for staff and students
5. Students:
- Co-supervision of project students and post-graduates when required
6. Analyses:
- Ad hoc assistance with specialist analyses as support to selected projects and money stream 3 activities
Minimum requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related (essential).
- Post-graduate qualification in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related (desirable).
- 3 years laboratory management experience (essential).
- 3 years analytical experience (essential).
- 3 years OHS management experience (desirable).
- Registerable for statutory body relevant to the field (desirable)
- Appointable as HCSC, and various OHS roles (desirable)
Functional/Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills):
- General laboratory operations, including analysis processes.
- Skills and experience on advanced analytical equipment.
- OHS legislation knowledge.
- Chemicals handling and MSDS knowledge.
- Administrative skills.
Behavioural Competencies:
- Strong leadership and managerial skills.
- Good communicator.
- Ability to train and guide students.
TOTAL REMUNERATION PACKAGE: Market related
