NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY LOCATION: VANDERBIJLPARK CAMPUS (Potch/Vaal/Mafikeng & Travel in between) DIVISION: FACILITIES DEPARTMENT: INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION POSITION NUMBER: N001503 VACANCY: PROJECT MANAGER REPORTING TO: MANAGER PEROMNES GRADE: P08 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To execute infrastructure development, refurbishment, macro maintenance and minor building works across multi-campus properties and estates ensuring alignment with the NWU strategic agenda University standards and regulatory requirements and to provide oversight for all phases of construction projects.
Job description

Key Responsibilities:
1. Design of Physical Infrastructure                                                                 
  • Oversee concept design phase of projects in accordance with user requirements, statutory requirements, University standards and approved budgets.
 
2. Contract Management
  • Ensure that all construction projects are completed within the conditions of contracts, specifications, quality standards, safety compliance and project budgets.
 
3. Project Reporting
  • Prepare monthly management reports, indicating deviations in respect of project schedules and budgets, as well as highlighting potential legal, safety and quality risks.
 
4. Financial Management and reporting
  • Maintain updated budgets for all projects.
 
5. Project Management
  • Manage and oversee projects within the department and manage professional teams
 
6. Manage construction safety regulations compliance and compliance approvals
  • Ensure that all construction safety regulations, safety compliance are adhered to in construction sites and approval of safety files
 
7. Minimise Construction Safety Risks
  • Oversee the following safety processes: pre-tender safety risk analysis, evaluation of construction safety plans and construction safety audits.
 
8. Preferential Procurement
  • Ensure preferential procurement strategies are adhered to and relevant stakeholders are engaged

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A recognized Degree ((NQF7) in the construction / built environment (Construction Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Architecture(essential).
  • Diploma(NQF6) in Project Management(Desirable).
  • Membership of a recognised professional body ESCA SACPCMP, SACAP, SACQSP(Desirable).

FUNCTIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • 3 Years proven operational experience in Built Environment
 
Functional & Technical competencies:
  • Knowledge of JBCC contracts
  • Experience in project management of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Computer Literacy: MS Excel and MS Projects
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates
  • Excellent written communication skills and report-writing
  • Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation
  • Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
