PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of this position is to teach ENLS (English for Practical Purposes) on the Mafikeng Campus, North-West University.
Job description
1. Teaching & Learning
- Take responsibility for a full lecturing load as regards the ENLS modules, related administrative tasks, guided development of learning materials, setting of tests and examinations.
2. Research
- Improve qualifications to Doctorate level, contribute towards the research output of the School of Languages
3. Academic leadership and administration
- Fulfilling managerial tasks and administrative duties in service of the University, as required of and related to the position within the subject group and as opportunities arise (e.g. at School / Faculty-level).
4. Social responsiveness / community engagement
- The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in community engagement projects of the School of Languages and the University, contributing to its welfare.
Minimum requirements
Junior Lecturer (A9):
- BA Honours in English and / or Applied Linguistics (with English as major subject at 3rd year level) or related field (with English as a major subject at 3rd year level)
- 0-1 years lecturing experience at a tertiary institution
- Applicant should be knowledgeable in the use of technology
- Applicant should be a team player and relate well with colleagues and peers
Lecturer (A8):
- Master of Arts in English and / or Applied Linguistics or related field
- Teaching / lecturing experience at university level (2 – 3 years)
- Applicant should be knowledgeable in the use of technology
- Applicant should be a team player and relate well with colleagues and peers
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
- Membership of relevant body (example: SAALT- South African Association for Language Teaching)
- Vested interest or experience in conducting subject-related research
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Excellent English language & communication skills
- Excellent level of computer literacy and LMS development
- Online facilitation of teaching-learning
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Good interpersonal skills
- Professional work ethic
- Student support experience (for example, SI facilitation, tutoring, peer mentoring)
- Ability and willingness to work with a variety of students
- Passionate about language teaching and learning
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
