Job description

1. Strategy Development
Compliance to NWU strategy on Mahikeng Campus                                
Compliance to Campus regulations and Standard Operating Procedures  

2. Crime Information
Ensure crime, incidents and relevant information are attended to 
All received crime information must be reported to relevant Control Officer and control room

3. Operations 
Report for duty as per prescribed by SOP
Ensure effective patrols and access control to ensure safe Campus 
Ensure all access control duties are conducted effectively 
Ensure proper alarm management is done 
Ensure key control is done effectively         
Ensure proper incident management is done 
Ensure all faults and deviations are reported 
Assist with ad-hoc duties as required by Protection Services Management


4. Security
Ensure physical crime prevention measures are conducted with regulation and policy directives 
Ensure adherence and compliance on service level agreement between Protection Services and outsourced security services

5. Disaster Management
Ensure immediate response in terms of disaster management during disasters on campus
Coordinate with internal stakeholders the incident response and management plan during catastrophic incidents

6. Special events & Emergency Services
Ensure protection of NWU property and life against fire hazards and other safety risk
Ensure deployment at special events are in accordance with legislation


7. Occupational Health & Safety
Comply with OHS legislation in terms of responsibility for his / her own health and safety as well as others that may be affected by his / her actions or omissions at work.
Co-operate with management, OHS officials and colleagues to ensure legal requirements are met.

Minimum requirements

• A grade 12 National Senior Certificate (NSC) is essential for this position 
• A PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) certificate (Grade C) is essential for this position 
• 3 years guarding and patrol experience at an Institute of Higher Learning (University) is essential for this position


FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS):

• Relevant experience in submitting reports and statements
• A valid driver’s license (Code B) is desirable 
• Computer Literacy
• Traffic and Access control into campus
• Patrol duties and response to emergencies on Campus

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

• Must be able to function in a team
• Good communication skills
• Customer service orientated
• Excellent time management skills

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
