Introduction
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To oversee and improve the day-to-day operational effectiveness in respect of campus facilities, people and culture, and student life in a joint accountability relationship with the executive team members who have strategic and functional development accountability for these support functions. To execute one or more executive functions across the university as may be assigned from time to time. To represent the Vice Chancellor and executive team members as institutional leader on campus and perform ceremonial functions.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy Development
·       Co-determine, develop and be jointly accountable for successful implementation of the overall NWU strategy
 
Culture Development
·       Promote, oversee and support a healthy, vibrant student, academic and social life on campus, contributing in this way to a unitary NWU identity and culture
·       Promote transformation, diversity and unity on campus and across campuses
·       Manage and monitor campus culture and joint accountability for pro-active identification and implementation of interventions
 
Operational Management
·       Oversee minor infrastructure and facilities maintenance and development on campus
·       Participate in infrastructure and space planning
·       Oversee day-to-day auxiliary services (cleaning and hygiene; landscaping and gardening; sport and recreation; waste management)
·       Joint accountability for implementation of environmental, sustainability and OHS strategies on campus
·       Officiate at institutional and campus events as mandated by the VC, and DVC’s
·       Oversee day-to-day operation of support services and hubs to facilitate achievement of unit strategies and overall NWU strategy.
 
Community Engagement
·       Promote sustainability principles by increasing work integrated learning; increasing number and impact of community engagements.
·       Maintaining and building strong relations with the communities.
 
Relationship Management
·         NWU brand positioning and promotion joint accountability through effective relationships with local government, the community, industry, students, parents and alumni and other stakeholders
 
Operational effectiveness projects
·       Identify and execute operational effectiveness projects within facilities, people and culture, and student life functions in joint accountability with functional executives.
 
Execute assigned functions
•     Lead the development of one or more assigned functions across the university as assigned from time to time.
 
Management and Leadership Results Areas

•     Corporate governance conformance, reporting and risk management
•     Processes and systems utilisation, effectiveness and efficiency

Minimum requirements

·       PhD in the relevant area of specialisation (NQF 10)
·       Eight (8) years’ overall specialist experience in the relevant industry/ professional leadership. 
·       Four (4) years’ operational experience in the in relevant industry / professional leadership
·       Four (4) years’ Senior management experience
