Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To support the Director/Manager to develop, implement and maintain the research ethics programme, structures (research ethics committees) and online tools to enable effective management and delivery of the research ethics programmes and projects across the institution.
The provision of support and guidance on the research ethics programme, projects, processes and procedures, tools and training. Monitoring and reporting of programme progress and performance and facilitating all aspects of programme meetings, trainings, and documentation.
Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7)
· 3 years’ experience in Research Ethics (Operational)
· 2 years’ experience in Project Management (Operational)
Recommendation:
· Honours Degree- Project Management (NQF 8)
· Registration/Certified Research Ethics Officer or Equivalent
Responsibilities:
Programme Coordination:
· Developing, documenting and maintaining research ethics programme management structures, frameworks and tools, and supporting research ethics committees and other researchers to use these consistently and effectively.
· Contributing to the development of programme documentation, plans and reports.
· Development and maintenance of resourced ethics project/activity plans, including allocation of duties where appropriate.
Programme Administration:
· Maintaining ethics programme/projects records and establishing project controls.
· Keeping the Director/Manager informed of the programme status.
· Preparation of project reports including status reports, and project dashboards.
· Identifying risks and taking action accordingly.
· Providing secretariat to research ethics and relevant committees, and participating in ethics and related meetings.
· Providing flexible, hands-on delivery support and assisting with effective communication between the department and the role-players and relevant stakeholders.
Relationship Management, planning and Training:
· Manage professional relationships with internal and external ethics stakeholders and act as lead point of contact for all relevant external stakeholders.
· Providing training and guidance to colleagues across the institution to develop research ethics capabilities.
· Implement and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling of programme activities.
Functional/Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills):
· Office 365 Tools
· Extensive experience of preparing, managing, and communicating project-related documentation for management committees.
· Sufficient level of technical background to accurately and objectively evaluate project risks.
· Ability to provide leadership to research ethics admin assistants and collaborate with other research ethics stakeholders
· Experience of contributing to and writing detailed and good quality reports
· Experience of designing & facilitating trainings/workshops for researchers
· Experience of delivering presentations to stakeholders

· Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building
· Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands
· Solid understanding of and demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools
