Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of this position is to administer bursary administration for various Bursars and to assist students, parents, and stakeholders with all enquiries
Key Responsibilities:
1) Internal Bursary Administration
- Receive bursary applications
- Perform first round evaluations
- Capture applications on Students Bursaries and Loans system
- Ensure applications are sent to Central Bursary Office
2) Government Funded Bursary Administration
- Administration of NSFAS, DSD, NSF and DMV bursaries
- Capturing on SBL system according to bursary codes
- Determine students that qualify for allowances and stipends and submit information to be loaded on student accounts
- Assist students with signing of contracts
- Evaluate and approve requests for private accommodation payments
- Review accounts and subsystem to ensure completeness of reporting
3) External Bursary Administration
- Administration of various External Bursars
- Capturing on SBL system according to bursary codes
- Determine students that qualify for allowances and stipends and submit information to be loaded on student accounts
- Assist bursars with request for information, statements, records and invoices
- Evaluate and approve requests for private accommodation payments and credit refunds
- Review accounts and subsystem to ensure completeness of reporting
4) Student Account Administration and Reports
- Compile templates with student funding requirements
- Regularly review allocations and follow up on outstanding information
- Identify student with funding risks and report on a monthly basis
- Perform account audits
5) General Enquiries
- Attend to all student, parent, and bursar enquiries in a professional manner
- Build professional working relationships with Bursars
- Resolve funding problems with regular follow ups
- Assist with bursary audits
6) Ad Hoc requests
- Assist with all reasonable ad-hoc tasks that might surface in the line of duty

Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (essential)
- Diploma/ Degree in Finance/or Accounting (Desirable)
- 2 years’ experience within tertiary environment (Essential)
- 1 year knowledge of university systems (Desirable)
- 2 years’ experience in data processing, compiling of reports or templates (Essential)
Functional & Technical competencies:
- Computer Literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet, E-mail)
- Numerical skills
- Able to work accurately, and under pressure to achieve deadlines
- Exceptional knowledge of NSFAS and other Government funded bursaries
Behavioural Competencies:
- Client serviced orientated – a positive attitude towards multicultural clients
- Ability to function in a team as well as independently
- Excellent communication skills
- Problem solving
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
