Introduction
NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: HUMANITIES POSITION NUMBER: M000190 VACANCY: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: 8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The lecturer will contribute to the teaching and learning of undergraduate students at Mafikeng Campus’s Political Studies and International Relations program. The prospective staff will teach peace studies courses and supervise honors and master’s students. In addition, the lecturer will contribute to the school of Government Studies’ research efforts.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teaching and Learning – Teaching and administering of examination of allocated modules.
• Research and innovation – To be able to publish at least one journal article in DHET accredited journals.
• Community Engagement – Effective participation in community development projects.

Minimum requirements

Qualification
• Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict studies is essential.
• Membership in SAAPS is desirable .
Experience/s
• 2 years’ experience in Teaching and Learning is essential.
• 2 years’ experience in research is essential.
• 1 year experience in Community engagement is essential.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Knowledge of current developments in Political Science and in particular the sub – field of Peace and Conflict Studies.
• A high level of computer literacy, with the ability to use various Microsoft programs ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
• Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU (knowledge of an indigenous African language would be an advantage).
• At least two years of experience in a higher academic and research environment. Including two publication record and supervision of honours students. Supervision of master’s students would serve as an advantage.
• A record of near completion of PhD in Peace and Conflict studies/ Political Science would be an added advantage.
• Involvement in community engagement initiatives would be a requirement.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
• Publishing research articles and conference papers.
• Teaching of honours and undergraduate students. Supervising honours research projects.
• Marketing the department in terms of recruiting students and maintaining relations with local stakeholders.
• At least two years of experience in a higher academic and research environment, including two publication record and supervision of honours and master’s degree students .
• Community engagement and General academic administration.


The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
