Job description
- TEACHING
- The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.
- Initiation and development of subject material.
- DEVELOPMENT AND SUPERVISION
- The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
- Supervision of the programme of study of honours/master’s students or of postgraduate students engaged in course work.
- Teaching activities include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of master's and honours students.
- The supervision of honours and research students and where appropriate the leadership of research teams. This may require a high level of administrative work.
- RESEARCH
- Supervision of major honours/master's or postgraduate research projects.
- Conducting of research.
- Involvement in professional activity.
- DEVELOPMENT OF COURSE MATERIALS
- Development of course material with appropriate advice and support of more senior colleagues.
- Marking of assessments
- Consultations with students
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements
- PhD Generic research
- Membership of at least one professional body.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years' work experience in relevant subject group.
- 5 years' experience of extensive independence and initiative in research.
- 5 years' experience of sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning.
- Registered with at least one professional body.
- Accreditation(s) with any professional body.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Computer literacy in MS office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet
- Knowledge of appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance
- Research outputs and publications in academic journals over the past five years
- A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students' educational development and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of modern platforms to enhance ongoing change in the learning and collaboration environment.
- Will be expected to be involved in the development of and have responsibility for curricula and programmes of study.
- Effective time management, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
- The ability to function well individually and as part of team/subject group.
- Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as being self-driven.
