NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (VANDERBIJLPACK CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: DVC TEACHING AND LEARNING POSITION NUMBER: N003012 VACANCY: EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGIST PEROMNES GRADE: P10 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED TERM CONTRACT WITH BENEFITS PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Education Technologist (ET) will be responsible for ensuring that the core functions of staff development and training for the UCDG project on digital assessment across the three campuses and faculties are supported. In addition, the ET will be responsible for working alongside the project coordinator to develop and implement appropriate teaching and learning practices in using digital assessment. The ET role will focus on support for staff development for the effective use of technologies for digital assessment at the NWU, with the view to reaching stated goals in the NWU T&L Strategy, the Annual Performance Plan (APP), and the sustainable development goals. Job description

  1. Research, investigate and review (and advise on) the educational application of digital assessment practices
    • Projects determined according to APP of the NWU, Faculty plans and strategic focus of CTL.
    • Manage and collaborate on digital assessment project to investigate, with the aim to:

                  • Adopt new, or

                  • enhance current digital assessment technology applicable to the NWU.

 

  1. Enhancing the digital assessment skills of lecturers and enhance the student experience in digital assessment
    • Developing innovative training material with blended learning activities, incorporating new training material, assisting with staff development training sessions in using digital assessment

 

  1. Lecturer engagement in digital assessment and using Technology for assessment practice
    • Ongoing engagement and communication with lecturers about:
  1. UCDG project 12 digital assessment
  2. Continuous support in the development of digital assessments in the applicable software platform
  3. Workgroup projects
  4. Meetings with NWU Support Units (IT, CTL etc.).
    • Development of best practice guidelines w.r.t digital assessment.
  1. Project planning managing, monitoring and evaluation
    • Collaborate with project coordinator to assist in implementing effective methods of project planning, managing, monitoring, and evaluating the digital assessment project.
  2. Report Writing
    • Write a comprehensive and informative report on the process of digital assessment and innovation technology-enhanced teaching and learning practices. Record keeping on all research and investigation activities for reporting purposes.

 

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum requirement: Hons Degree (or equivalent) in Education/Higher Education/ Digital Assessments for Technology-enhanced teaching and learning (NQF level 8)
  • Desirable requirement: Master’s degree in Education/Higher Education/ Digital Assessments for Technology-enhanced teaching and learning (NQF level 9)

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years’ experience in Higher Education Teaching and Learning
  • 3 years’ experience in Digital assessments and Technology enhanced learning

 

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education teaching and learning environment.
  • Knowledge of digital assessments and the skills to facilitate Technology-enhanced learning on meso – and micro level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital assessments experience in innovative teaching and learning (and/or a qualification in which Technology-enhanced learning was addressed) will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of institutional processes and policies relevant to digital assessments and Technology enhanced learning.
  • Build personal capacity to ensure effective teaching, learning, and assessment technology adoption at the NWU to support and develop an effective teaching, learning and assessment environment.

 

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills.
  • Ability to organise and motivate people.
  • Project management skills, including planning, managing, monitoring, and evaluating both processes, people, and finances.
