PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To fill in a permanent position of senior lecturer made available as a result of staff retirement in the department.
Job description
Teaching and Learning
· Undergraduate teaching in the specific subject areas of microbial genetics and/or microbial biochemistry, and in accordance with the set requirements of the alignment programme between campuses.
· Honours teaching in the basic area of general mycology.
· Effective teaching practices – contact and online modes.
· Satisfactory student success rate according to the set faculty norms.
· Monitoring of and engagement with at-risk students to ensure student success.
· Effective assessment and evaluation practices.
Research and Innovation
· Effective recruitment and supervision of honours, masters, doctoral and postdoctoral students.
· Effective designing and management of research projects.
· Attraction and management of external research funds.
· Forging of local and international networks.
· Production of high quality research outputs.
· NRF rating.
Community Engagement and Social Responsiveness
· Involvement in the initiatives of the department or school at large.
· Mentorship of junior staff.
Administration
· Involvement in any required administrative tasks of the subject group and as tasked by management.
· Contributions to advising students.
· Participation in recruitment activities.
Minimum requirements
Qualification
· PhD NQF level 10 in Microbiology is essential.
Experience/s
· 3 years Proficient experience in Teaching at tertiary level is essential.
· 3 years Advanced experience in Postgraduate supervision is essential.
· 1 year Basic experience in General management is desirable.
ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:
· Accreditation to the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) is essential.
· Membership in the South African Society for Microbiology (SASM) is essential.
