NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) DIVISION: DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR: TEACHING AND LEARNING POSITION NUMBER: N001512 VACANCY: DIRECTOR PLANNING and SPECIAL PROJECTS PEROMNES GRADE: 5 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: 5-YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To manage specific projects in the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching-learning relating to the development and promotion of teaching and learning in areas that include continuing education; academic planning; qualification and programme approval; the I-IEQC system for institutional reviews; and the use of institutional research and management information to support teaching and learning. Other responsibilities and projects will be agreed with the DVC on a dynamic basis.
Job description

The scope of responsibilities will develop and change on a dynamic basis, as necessitated by the context of national policy, the external quality-assurance system under the I-IEQC, and institutional developments. Initial responsibilities include:
·        Assistance with the implementation of the strategy for teaching and learning
·        Management of the institutional system for the approval of qualifications and programmes
·        Development and implementation of a framework for the management of the institutional PQM
·        Coordination of enrolment planning at an institutional level
·        Coordination of faculty curriculum development planning
·        Integration of institutional research to support teaching and learning and academic planning
·        Coordination of the University's participation in the University Capacity Development Programme
·        Establishment of a system for the effective presentation of information relating to teaching and learning on institutional communication platforms, including the NWIJ web and intranet
·        Any other responsibilities as agreed to with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching-I-earning

Minimum requirements

Qualifications
·        A PhD
Experiences
·        At least 10 years’ experience in Higher Education
·        At least 5 years' experience in higher-education management relating to academic planning — preference will be given to candidates with experience in all the following areas: qualification and programme approval; continuing education; and HEQC audits
 
Recommendations
·        Experience in the coordination of institutional participation in I-IEQC audits
·        An understanding of the use of electronic platforms for presentation of information to end users
 
Other competency requirements:
·        A thorough understanding of the regulatory environment relating to the approval, accreditation and registration of academic qualifications and programmes, as well as short courses
·        Proven experience in managing processes relating to the approval and accreditation of formal academic qualifications and programmes, and short courses
·        A thorough understanding of the HEQC system for institutional audits/reviews
·        A thorough understanding of the DHET's framework for enrolment planning
·        The ability to manage the relationship between the institutional teaching-and-learning portfolio and the NWU web and intranet
·        The ability to work in a multilingual and multi campus environment
·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills
·        Excellent interpersonal skills
·        Computer and information literacy, including MS Office
·        Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NVVU
