Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Involved in teaching and learning (undergraduate and post-graduate programmes); research which fits into
the faculty’s focus areas; post-graduate supervision (where applicable); community service and tasks which
relates to all above activities.

Minimum requirements

Qualification/s
  • LLB
  • An LLM in any field in law
  • Admission as an attorney or an advocate.
 
Experience/s
  • Experience in publications in accredited journals.
  • Proven record of effective post graduate supervision.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in academia (Lecturer).OR
  • Post-admission experience in practice as an Attorney or Advocate: Min 1 year (Junior Lecturer) OR Min 3 years (Lecturer)
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with expertise concerning teaching-learning and research in any of the following subject fields: Commercial Law and/or Private Law. However, candidates with expertise in any other field will also be considered.
  • Legal language skills.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as email, Internet and the electronic retrieval of legal sources.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Language skills in order to function optimally in the different multilingual environments of the NWU.
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Good interpersonal relations
  • The ability to work with large groups of people
  • The ability to accommodate multiculturalism
