NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY/ DIVISION: STUDENT LIFE POSITION NUMBER: TP VACANCY: HOUSE PARENT (TWO POSITIONS) PEROMNES GRADE: 12 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED TERM CONTRACT WITH ALLOWANCES PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The main purpose of the position is to ensure that proper services are offered in terms of a safe, disciplined and welcoming living environment in the residence for students, while also creating an environment that demonstrates good governance, transformation, recreational opportunities and a contribution towards the core business of the university.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Strategy implementation.
  • Conduct institutional strategy and joint accountability for implementation success
  • Conduct and joint accountability for the implementation of the strategy and approach to student life and the student value
  • Proposition with respect to the residence life, to give effect to the nwu strategy, its multicampus nature and national imperatives.
2.    Residence management and operation
  • Operational management:
  • Management:
  • Form part of residence management together with house committee
  • Leadership development
  • Development of a balanced student population profile
  • Supervising all residence activities
  • Oversee the management of the different portfolios held by the house committee
  • Management of internal disciplinary processes in line with the nwu processes, based on the set nwu values
  • Supervising and directing events, programmes and structures that would enable student participation in social and recreational arts and sports activities
3.    Financial management
  • Budget allocation to respective house committee portfolios
  • Operational financial management at house committee level.

Minimum requirements

  • Permanently appointed staff member or staff on a fixed-term contract of three (3) or more years on the Potchefstroom campus of the NWU.
  • Three (3) years operational experience in student life is essential.
  • Three (3) years personal experience within student life is essential.
  • Five (5) years personal and operational experience in a tertiary environment is desirable.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
